ABOUT ME
I am Suzanne ChuChian Chong, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist based in the Greater Philadelphia area and founder of Clarity and Insight Counseling Services, LLC. I named my practice Clarity and Insight because of the name given to me when I was born - "ChuChian" typifies the ability to see clearly.
I completed my doctoral degree in an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited clinical psychology program in North Texas. My intervention style is trauma-informed with an overarching psychodynamic approach. I have certifications in completion of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy training from the nationally recognized Trauma-Focused National Therapist Certification Program, along with certificates of completion from Gottman Institute in my work with couples. Additionally, I have specialized training in my post-doctoral residency in a residential eating disorder facility. My main areas of expertise are eating disorders, relationship violence and abuse, racial trauma, and mood disorders. My hope is that the work we do together will help you see your path ahead in an enlightened and empowered manner.

A BIT ABOUT ME AND MY PHILOSOPHY OF THERAPY
My work with individuals who have been through trauma, abuse, and/or neglect (familial abuse or toxic relationships) has led me to conceptualize concerns related to eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depressive episodes, OCD, and substance use as closely intertwine with unresolved complex trauma, genetic pre-disposition, relationship break-downs, and ineffectual coping strategies.
It is important to me that our therapeutic relationship fosters a safe, accepting, and collaborative space by exploring resilience, strengths, and informed curiosity. I strive to facilitate self-empowerment and self-efficacy through adaptive coping/behavioral skills, strengthening cognitive insight, while honoring that change is hard when life gets rough.

I utilize familiarity with immigration, acculturation, and oppression in my professional work with culturally informed practices that have an emphasis on social justice.

I believe that in order to be a helpful therapist, one needs to practice humility and love of learning. Currently, I serve as an adjunct faculty at Arcadia University and Villanova University for graduate students in counseling. I completed part of my residency at an eating disorder facility and worked as a staff psychologist in college counseling center for a number years.

"I used to believe
all anger was wrong,
so I was the captain of the tone police --
until I discovered politeness is not rightness,
that anger is not always hate, but hurt,
and to be loving
is to be fiercely angry at injustice."
